How do I study the kinematics of Class 11?

Class 12 Physics board exam tips from Physics expert DC Pandey - Education Today News

What is Kinematics: This is a field of study in physics that involves the principles of mechanics and it is known to describe the motion of different points and also bodies and groups of bodies but we do not necessarily study the forces that make those motions.

Properties of Kinematics:

  1. This is the motion that also can be studied under the branch of Mathematics. When we see a problem with kinematics it usually means that it first describes the geometry of the known system and them the other conditions like the position or velocity of the system are analysed or studied.
  2. If we study the different types of forces that make the motion then that falls under kinetics and not kinematics.
  3. In the field of Astrophysics it describes the motion of celestial bodies and collections of such bodies. In the field of mechanical engineering and robotics, here kinematics is used to describe the motions of systems that makes up of jointed parts for any system or engine or a robot or even a human skeletal.
  4. The process of Kinematics analysis will use some kinematic quantities to describe motion. In the field of Engineering the kinematics will find motion or movement for a given mechanism. This field also uses geometry to study mechanical system for mechanism.
  5. Kinematic constraint are the constraints one puts on the components for a mechanical system. They are considered in to forms- Constraints that come put of hinges and others like sliders and joints. These are called Holonomic constraints. The other form is the constraint that is on the velocity of the system. This is non-holonomic system.
  6. What is kinematic coupling – This is done to constraint the part in question and thus provide location certainty and precise solutions.

What are kinematic pairs- when there is ideal connection between pairs to form a machine kinematic pairs. Higher pairs does have contact between the links and lower ones will have area link contact. Thus there are many different ways to fill in the simple definition of classification of to construct pairs. Some lower pairs isa ideal holonomic constraint that will establish contact between a point and line or plane in a moving solid body to any one corresponding body. The joint may be cylindrical or prismatic or hinged. Thus one of them will be established. The hinged joint will remain in a co-linear way to a body which has a fixed position and also a plane perpendicular to the line that represents the moving body.

Next is the prismatic joint that does require the line or axis in the body which is moving and it thus stays co-linear to the body. There is a plane parallel to the line for it to remain in contact with the similar parallel to the plane of the fixed body. This particular will impose about five constraints and this is applicable for the relative links for the movement and also has a degree of freedom.

The third is the cylindrical joint which is the moving body is co-linear with the line in the body which is fixed. This is a combination of the above two. This particular joint has two degrees of freedom.

We can also talk of a spherical joint which requires a point on the moving body that has contact with the point on the fixed body. This has three degrees of freedom. Also we can talk of planar joint that requires that both the planes of the moving and the fixed body will remain in contact. This has three degrees of freedom.

Can you answer the question: The velocity of a particle moving in the positive direction of the x axis varies as v=alphasqrtx, where alpha is a positive constant. Assuming that at the moment t=0 the particle was located at the point x=0, find: (a) the time dependence of the velocity and the acceleration of the particle, (b) the mean velocity of the particle averaged over the time that the particle takes to cover the first s metres of the path.

Here we can talk of the cord which is not extensible- this is connected by a chord which is in tension and cannot change the length.

The above is the brief description for the kinematics field of study however this is not restricted to them only. Kinematics is a varied field of study that needs to be understood in some deep length and core concepts. If a student wants to study this chapter for his or her exam then it is important that the core concepts are handled first and then it is given enough time to understand the whole chapter.

This chapter will also involve other subjects related to the concept so any concept inter related to this concept also needs to be studied along the way. There is no short cut for the preparation level. The old sample papers for the exam will enable a student to understand the type of questions an exam can ask or the type of questions one can expect.
