Family Counselling: 4 Signs That My Family Needed It

My family is the most precious part of my life, even if we have problems at home. However, there are times when those issues get unresolved until they become a burden to us. Even if I wanted to talk to my parents or siblings, they would shut me out because they had problems with each other. With this, I told myself that I would never approach any of them unless they were the ones who did it first. The situation worsened until I realised we needed to undergo family therapy in Singapore. It was the first thing I thought of when the silence in our home was unbearable anymore.

4 SIGNS THAT MY FAMILY NEEDED COUNSELLING

Before undergoing family counselling in Singapore, I thought of it for months. I wanted to guarantee that I would not have problems with the decision because my family is involved. But after those months of thinking, I realised that it was what our family must experience for a long time. So I talked to them and told them that these signs were the reason I decided to have the therapy with them:

1. WE DO NOT LISTEN TO EACH OTHER

People should listen to each other, especially if there are problems. But when it happened to our family, no one was listening to the other any longer. If someone tries to talk, some of us will be on our phones and ignore the people around us. It was a good escape at first, but it made me feel that no one was there for me when I needed help.

2. MY MENTAL HEALTH IS GETTING AFFECTED

My mental health kept worsening because of the problems that our family had. I cannot do anything properly, and I always get anxious. I did not want to experience that again, especially at home. It must be where I would feel safer, but it was not the case. Looking for family service centres in Singapore is one of the things I did not regret doing because it helped us.

3. WE DO NOT HAVE THE ENERGY TO COMMUNICATE

Before undergoing family counselling, our family does not have the energy to communicate with each other. Every time someone tries to talk, the other will get upset, and the shouting will begin. Instead of having a meaningful and healthy conversation, we will end up hating each other more. Nothing became healthy with our family after that.

4. NO ONE WANTS TO EAT TOGETHER

People say that eating together is a way to get closer to your family, so I told myself we should do it. However, no one wants to eat together because of the issues that keep on growing without any resolution. I always ate alone for months, even if my family and I were in the same house.

These signs were the ones I noticed for a long time when our family had problems. But I am just thankful that we still resolved the issues that occurred in our family. Good thing I visited the website of PPIS because they helped me and my family figure things out together. I also learned more about fostering in Singapore because of them.
